What Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom Actually Cost Me
The Cost Of Hype For A Jurassic Movie
I’d say the hype started on February 4, 2018. The superbowl kicked off the Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom hype for me with the first trailer, as well as a dino-mite Jeep commercial. I didn’t really get my first taste (pun intended) of the Jurassic franchise hype until the end of March though. From ice cream to video games, I indulged in over $100 worth of Fallen Kingdom purchases. Some were good, some were bad, and luckily none were ugly. Below are the things I picked up, along with some links if you want to know more. I made a spreadsheet because that’s what I like to do sometimes. It’s at the end if you want to check it out.
Rocket League released a Jurassic World Car Pack. You get to play as the iconic Jurassic Park Jeep! Also the goal score effect is OUTSTANDING! Definitely in the good column, especially since it was only a couple bucks. It does require the full Rocket League game, which is basically soccer/football with cars. Fun little game. It’s also a great way to drive a Jeep in the game if you’re a Jeep fan.
I’d place the Funko Pop Indoraptor in the bad column. I made the mistake of thinking I’d get something similar to the item pictured. The paint was my biggest complaint. If you’re interested, you can check out my review here. It’s a cool looking Pop in concept, I think I just got a bad one. Buyer beware when you’re shopping online. Also my freak accident didn’t help matters any, but i didn’t want to keep it in the box anyway.
Of course there was my actual Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom movie ticket. I actually hit it at some kind of special matinee price or something. I was surprised, but I wasn’t going to argue. You can check out my thoughts in the movie review here. Keep in mind it does contain spoilers. General thoughts are that it was good overall.
The mobile game Jurassic World Alive was pretty strong hype builder. It was a beautiful looking game, but most importantly it was free. Free opens up a lot of doors, and gets a lot of good press. You can check my review of the game here, but the short version is I thought it was a good game. Not sure how these games encourage exercise, as it didn’t exactly seem convenient. Maybe if you walked a few miles at a time it might work for you, otherwise it just becomes something you take with you to kill time running errands.
While technically not a purchase, Jurassic World Evolution is my favorite pick. Frontier Developments sent me a key to showcase the game, and I streamed every moment of it! The game is just plain fun, and I’ve conquered almost all of the islands with five stars. The graphics are amazing, and the little parts that let you take control are just SO much fun. I recommend this game to anyone that has ever dreamed about running their own Jurassic Park!
I won’t call the June 2018 Loot Crate bad, per se, but it certainly was underwhelming. My review has the full details here. The theme was Colossal and included the franchises of Jurassic Park and Godzilla. Even the better items had some drawbacks. I’d like to give the loot crate service another try in the future, but I don’t know how many dinosaur heavy franchises are out there outside of Jurassic Park/World. Maybe the new Godzilla movie on the horizon will give me a chance soon.
Probably one of my best purchases was from Cryptocurium. It’s a mystery box service, and the June Parcel of Terror was Jurassic Park themed. It was a little on the pricey side, but considering you won’t get stuff like this anywhere else, I think it was worth it. I definitely recommend you check out this service if you’re a horror movie junkie.
I bought a bunch of Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom food too. I picked up the Jurassic Park Chomp sundae from Diary Queen was the item I referenced at the beginning. It was delicious. I also quickly became a potato chip snob and totally supported Doritos for their Fallen Kingdom advertising. Dr. Pepper also made some money off of me with their Rexy themed can design. In the end I collected over $100 in Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom merchandise. Just goes to show you that when you’re a fan, you spend a lot more than the ticket price on a movie!
